Review: Pale Waves "Easy" Single

Written by Linette Ray

British Indie-Pop band Pale Waves is back again with their new single "Easy" from their upcoming sophomore album "Who Am I?" available February 12! The band, comprised of Heather Baron-Gracie (vocals), Ciara Doran (drums), Hugo Silvani (lead guitar, keyboard) and Charlie Wood (lead bass, keyboard) blend together catchy pop-esque lyrics with smooth synth beats and rhythmic bass to create a goth-pop vision of perfection.

"Easy" reflects on the feelings of being in love with being in love. Frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie says about the track "Love can change your whole perspective, not only of yourself but of life too...It’s the most heartfelt moment throughout the album and it is a genuine, feel-good love song. Originally, ‘Easy’ was a piano ballad but I wanted to put more energy behind the instrumentation to enhance how love can uplift, drive, and inspire you hence the dramatic musical change.”

The track, accompanied by a Tim Burtonesque music video shot in an old church, makes listeners fall in love with everything that surrounds being in a relationship. Baron-Gracie sings in the chorus "You changed something inside me, I'm not who I used to be" hitting home the drug like high you get when you're surrounded by love.

"Easy" follows singles "Change" a catchy, retro-guitar track comprised of heartbreak stories from Baron-Gracie's friends and "She's My Religion," a heartfelt melody that takes us through Baron-Gracie's embracement her sexuality to represent a queer relationship without hiding behind the clichés of oversexualization or playful experimentation.
