Forget trick-or-treating. This Halloween, every Massachusetts resident and their mother seemed to be at Sum 41’s show at the Worcester Palladium. The show was their last stop on their Order In Decline US tour, and it certainly ended it with a bang. Openers The Plot In You and The Amity Affliction delivered stand-out performances that left the crowd practically hanging over the barricade in anticipation for the headliner, and these guys did not disappoint. Their high energy sets were flawless and whoever was responsible for this show’s lighting design deserves special recognition on their own. The perfect timing and pure dynamism did not overshadow the bands, but made their production come to life. Elements that typically come off as tacky (like confetti machines and towers of smoke) were incorporated so well to fit Sum 41’s fun and colorful aesthetic without undermining their punk rock sound. Overall, there was not a dull moment in this show and even lower energy moments provided a chance for the audience to catch their breath before picking up again. If you ever get a chance to see this band live, you don’t want to waste it.
